TENNIS CAMP – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the day all about tennis?
No, Camps are about lots of fun things including sport, games and arts and crafts. The physical activities focus on a range of skills and co-ordination games that help support children in a range of sports and improve fitness and co-ordination and build confidence. Social skills are supported through activities that require collaboration and sharing.
How do you manage in different weather conditions?
Parents are asked to provide appropriate clothing for hot and cold weather including hats and sun-screen in summer. We ensure children do not play outside in extreme heat and have indoor activities if it rains.
Are the coaches safeguard checked?
Yes, all coaches have regular DBS checks and this is a requirement for LTA registration. The club also checks that all DBS certificates are up to date.
What happens at lunch time?
Lunchtimes are supervised. Although sharing is nice social behaviour we ask children not to share food as others may have specific food requirements or allergies.
What if my child has an accident?
We have done risk assessments for activities and seek to keep children safe. All coaches have up to date First Aid certificates. Minor cuts and scrapes are treated. We record all incidents with accident reports. In the unlikely event of a more serious accident we have all parents’ contact numbers and standard accident procedures will be followed.
What are the coach/child ratios?
We keep within the ratios recommended by NSPCC and LTA. Children are grouped according to age and ability and are supervised accordingly.
How do you mitigate exposure to allergens?
We have a nut free policy. All parents are asked to ensure that they do not include any food for lunch, or snacks that contains nuts. Please inform us if you know that your child has an allergy.
What happens if I am late picking up my child at the end of the day?
While we understand that there are things in life that cause delays, we ask that you leave plenty of time to collect your child. Coaches also have family and professional commitments. They will make a charge of 50p a minute for lateness.
Behaviour
We remind all children at the start of each day that they must treat everyone with respect and kindness. If they have problems with another child they should tell a coach immediately. Any bullying or physical aggression will be treated seriously and logged in an incident report. A judgement will be made whether to inform parents immediately, or at the end of the day. Incidents are rare and the atmosphere at camps is lively and enjoyable.
Do you take Childcare vouchers?
No, not at the moment.
My child has a medical condition. How can you help manage this?
Please tell us about any medical condition your child has when you enrol him/her. This information will be kept confidential but communicated to the lead coach. If your child needs medication during the day it is important that the coach knows this. Children may keep their asthma pumps in their day bag but epi pens should be put in a plastic bag labelled with your child’s name and given to the lead coach for secure storage during the day. For any other conditions please discuss with James Mott prior to enrolling.
What levels do you cater fo?
Our camps cater for all levels from beginners to children competing in LTA tournaments
